Tech3 Delays Rider Decisions as 2027 MotoGP Manufacturer Switch Looms

Tech3 MotoGP team principal Nicolas Goyon has confirmed that uncertainty over the squad’s 2027 bike supplier is delaying rider signings for next season. The French outfit, now under the ownership of former Haas F1 boss Guenther Steiner, is weighing its options amid strong rumors of a switch from KTM to Honda for the upcoming 850cc regulations era.

Honda is reportedly eager to expand its grid presence to six bikes from 2027, with Tech3 emerging as the likely partner after Gresini renewed its ties with Ducati. In an interview with Speedweek, Goyon clarified, “When we talk about 2027, the big issue remains the decision about which manufacturer we will continue with. The signing of riders also depends on this.”

Goyon revealed discussions with several riders and managers but stressed that “holding concrete talks without knowing which manufacturer Tech3 will be working with is pointless.” The team is also considering bringing in a Moto2 rider, given the class’s experience with Pirelli rubber, which will be used in MotoGP from 2027. However, he is reluctant to run two rookies, recalling the challenges faced during the 2022 season with Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez.

“In the current situation, it could be good for Tech3 to start with an experienced MotoGP rider and a rookie,” Goyon said, citing the importance of balance and experience in the team’s line-up.

Tech3’s current riders, Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales, are both expected to move on for 2027. Bastianini is linked with a Gresini return, while Vinales was initially tipped for a factory KTM spot but may now lose out to Fabio Di Giannantonio.

As the team evaluates its future manufacturer partner, Tech3’s final decisions on rider signings and long-term strategy remain on hold, with Goyon and the new management focused on ensuring the best possible foundation for MotoGP’s next era.
