Thunder’s Historic Season Breaks NBA Records, Shai Set for MVP

The Oklahoma City Thunder have completed one of the most dominant regular seasons in NBA history, shattering multiple league records and rewriting the franchise’s legacy.

OKC finished with 68 wins, surpassing their previous franchise best of 60 victories. They became just the seventh team in NBA history to reach that win total, placing them fifth all-time for most wins in a single season.

Their dominance was reflected in their point differential — the highest in NBA history — meaning they outscored opponents by a greater combined margin than any team before. They also recorded a staggering 54 double-digit wins, the most ever in a single season, outpacing even the total win count of the second-best Western Conference team, the Houston Rockets.

One of the Thunder’s most jaw-dropping achievements came against the Eastern Conference, where they went 29-1 — setting a new NBA record for most wins against the opposing conference in a season, surpassing the previous mark by two games.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder’s star guard, is widely expected to be named this season’s MVP. KOCO 5 Sports Director Bryan Keating believes it’s a done deal, which would make Shai the third Thunder player to claim the award in the past decade, following Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

With Durant, Westbrook, and now Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder become the first franchise since the 1990 Lakers (Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kobe Bryant) to have three different players win MVP while representing the same team.
