Timberwolves Eliminate Warriors, Celtics Stay Alive with Dominant Win

The Minnesota Timberwolves advanced to the NBA Western Conference Finals on Wednesday after defeating the Golden State Warriors 121-110 in Game 5, wrapping up the series 4-1. Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics avoided elimination in the East by overpowering the New York Knicks 127-102 to force a Game 6.

In Minneapolis, the Timberwolves imposed their dominance early and never let up. Despite a brief Warriors rally in the fourth quarter that cut the deficit to nine, Minnesota regained control to secure a convincing win. Julius Randle led the charge with 29 points, while Anthony Edwards posted an all-around performance with 22 points, 12 assists, and seven rebounds.

“We just stuck together and got through it,” said Randle. “Now we’ve got to keep it going.”

The Warriors’ playoff hopes were heavily impacted by the loss of Stephen Curry, who suffered an injury in Game 1. Coach Steve Kerr noted that Curry’s absence also hindered Jimmy Butler’s impact, stating, “Once Steph went out, it changed everything for our whole team.”

Minnesota will now face either Denver or Oklahoma City for a spot in the NBA Finals.

Over in Boston, the Celtics responded strongly to the loss of star Jayson Tatum, who suffered a ruptured Achilles in Game 4. Led by Derrick White and Jaylen Brown—who combined for 60 points—the Celtics overpowered the Knicks to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Luke Kornet made a surprise impact off the bench with seven blocks, one steal, and 10 points, providing crucial defensive energy and interior presence.

Coach Joe Mazzulla praised his team’s unity and resilience: “They made enough plays to win and gave us another chance to play.”

After a level first half, the Celtics surged in the third quarter with a 32-17 run, eventually building a 23-point lead. New York’s last chance for a comeback faded when Jalen Brunson fouled out with just over seven minutes left, finishing with 22 points.

Game 6 will be held at Madison Square Garden on Friday, with Boston looking to tie the series.
