Valentino Rossi’s long-time confidant, Uccio Salucci, believes Marc Marquez is on track to surpass the MotoGP icon’s record of 115 grand prix victories. Marquez, now riding for the factory Ducati team, extended his flawless 2025 campaign with another double win at the Argentina Grand Prix, where he once again bested his younger brother, Alex Marquez.
With his latest victory, Marquez secured his 90th grand prix win across all classes, equaling 13-time world champion Angel Nieto. This achievement places him third on the all-time wins list, trailing only Rossi and the legendary Giacomo Agostini.
Given the 20 remaining rounds this season, Marquez has a realistic chance of closing in on Rossi’s record—a possibility Salucci acknowledges.
“Bravo to him,” Salucci told AS.com’s Mela Chercoles. “It’s true that his goal now is Vale’s 115 wins. I think Marquez is very strong, and he has a fantastic bike and a fantastic team. I hope it doesn’t happen, but I think it will.”
The rivalry between Rossi and Marquez remains one of MotoGP’s most intense, stemming from their infamous clash during the 2015 season. The tension has persisted over the years, with Rossi openly questioning Ducati’s decision to sign Marquez over Jorge Martin, who eventually claimed the 2024 title.
Rossi’s 115th and final victory came in 2017 at the Dutch TT while riding for Yamaha. Now, as Marquez continues his dominant form, the prospect of him rewriting MotoGP history seems more likely than ever.
