Marc Marquez’s shoulder injury could see Ducati test rider Michele Pirro extend his remarkable streak of MotoGP appearances for another year. However, Ducati may also consider calling on a WorldSBK rider as a surprise stand-in.
Due to Ducati’s new ‘A’ concession status, wild-card entries are no longer permitted, placing Pirro’s run under threat. The Italian has made at least one MotoGP start every season since 2012, with 50 wild-card and substitute appearances between 2013 and 2023.
Last season, Pirro was sidelined until the final round, when he stepped in to replace VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio in Barcelona.
