Zinedine Zidane Eager to Take on France Coaching Role After 2026

Zinedine Zidane has expressed his strong desire to become the head coach of the French national team, calling it a “dream” role he is eager to embrace. The 52-year-old, widely tipped to succeed Didier Deschamps after the 2026 World Cup, made the comments during an event hosted by his longtime sponsor Adidas, according to French media.

“I feel qualified for the French team, where I played and spent practically 12, 13, 14 years as a player. Of course it’s a dream. I can’t wait,” said Zidane, who famously led France to World Cup glory in 1998 with two goals in the final.

Zidane’s former midfield partner Didier Deschamps, who has been in charge since 2012, guided France to the 2018 World Cup title. However, Deschamps has confirmed he will step down following the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

As a coach, Zidane enjoyed immense success with Real Madrid, winning three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles and two La Liga championships. He has been without a coaching role since concluding his second spell at Real Madrid in 2021.
