Johann Zarco “More Scared Than Hurt” After Catalunya MotoGP Crash

Johann Zarco has reassured fans that he is “more scared than hurt” following a dramatic crash at Turn 1 during the twice red-flagged MotoGP Catalan Grand Prix. The LCR Honda rider, involved in a collision with Luca Marini and Pecco Bagnaia at the restart, was taken to hospital for checks and remains under observation.

Posting an update from the hospital, Zarco explained, “Don’t worry, we’re still waiting for the test results. I’m wearing a neck brace, but it’s more of a nuisance than anything else. It’s mainly the knee; the ligaments have torn, but the femur isn’t broken. There’s a small fracture at the bottom of the fibula, on the outside of my left ankle. I’ll keep you posted. Just to reassure you anyway: more scare than harm, let’s say.”

LCR Honda later confirmed Zarco’s injuries: torn anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments, damage to the medial meniscus, and a small fibula tear in the ankle area. The team stated, “Zarco will remain overnight under observation and will travel to France on Monday to consult with specialists and assess the next steps in his recovery.”

The crash came amid a chaotic race that had already been red-flagged for a separate incident involving Pedro Acosta and Alex Marquez, the latter suffering several fractures. The Turn 1 incident has sparked renewed calls for MotoGP to review safety at the corner to help prevent similar accidents in the future.

The Castrol Honda LCR team has wished Zarco a speedy recovery and will provide further updates as he consults with specialists in France.
