Marc Marquez has revealed he held informal discussions with Honda over a potential MotoGP return in 2027 before ultimately committing his future to Ducati.
The seven-time MotoGP world champion recently ended months of speculation by signing a new two-year contract extension with Ducati, keeping him with the Italian manufacturer beyond the 2026 season.
Although reports suggested Marquez and Ducati had reached an agreement before pre-season testing, the official announcement was delayed amid ongoing negotiations between MotoGP and manufacturers over a new commercial agreement.
Marquez first joined Ducati with Gresini Racing in 2024 before earning a promotion to the factory squad the following season, where he went on to capture another world title.
Speaking to Spain’s DAZN, the Spaniard admitted Honda approached him about a possible reunion but stressed that renewing his deal with Ducati was always his top priority.
“There was an informal conversation, but I knew from the beginning that I wanted to hear from Ducati first,” Marquez said.
The eight-time world champion explained that while he remained open to listening to Honda, his focus never shifted away from staying with Ducati, believing it was the best place to continue fighting for victories and championships.
Marquez’s decision brings an end to months of speculation over his future, with the Spaniard now set to continue leading Ducati’s title challenge into MotoGP’s new era.
