Manchester United are in full-blown crisis mode as they host Bournemouth this weekend, desperate to halt a seven-game winless run and stave off growing speculation about manager Michael Carrick’s future. The Red Devils’ dismal start—just seven points from seven games, the lowest in their Premier League era—has dropped them to 13th in the table, with the threat of a relegation-zone tumble looming if results go against them.

United’s woes intensified after a 4-1 thrashing by Champions League newcomers Como. Captain Bruno Fernandes was direct in his post-match criticism, calling for more bravery, while Carrick fired back, highlighting the team’s lack of effort off the ball:

“Whatever tactics you play, if you don’t run and don’t run forward and don’t run back, you aren’t going to win.”

These public frustrations come just a week after defender Lisandro Martinez blasted the board’s lack of investment. With previous managers Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim both exiting after short stints, the pressure is on Carrick to turn things around quickly and prevent another season of transition.

Brighton’s High-Flying Attack Faces Liverpool Test

At the other end of the league, Brighton continue to impress with a free-scoring attack, tallying 23 goals in just seven games—second only to Barcelona across Europe’s top leagues. Despite routinely selling star players, owner Tony Bloom’s data-driven model has kept the Seagulls competitive and in dreamland for a potential, if still unlikely, title charge.

Manager Fabian Hurzeler, still just 33, urged his side to remain focused amid their best-ever Premier League run:

“We can enjoy it, but it’s important to stay humble—things in football can change quickly. We have to keep pushing.”

Brighton’s credentials will be put to the test during back-to-back trips to Liverpool and Manchester City over the next two weekends.

City Seek to End Villa Park Hoodoo Amidst Financial Cloud

Manchester City look to extend their flawless start as they visit Aston Villa, but manager Enzo Maresca also faces pressure with over 100 alleged financial rule breaches casting a cloud over the title holders. City have lost their last three at Villa Park and face a Villa squad reshaped and revitalized by Unai Emery, who has guided them to five wins in their last six across all competitions.

Villa’s new signings—Nicolas Jackson, Johan Manzambi, and Zion Suzuki—have helped fill the void left by Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers, and Emi Martinez, with Emery noting:

“How some individual players are getting more confident and better rhythm makes us happy and confident ourselves.”

With United in a perilous state, Brighton flying high, and City chasing perfection amid uncertainty, this weekend serves up another dramatic chapter in the Premier League season.
