MotoGP’s transition towards its new 2027 regulations gathered pace at Brno on Monday, as several leading riders completed their first laps on 850cc prototype machines fitted with Pirelli tyres.
Eight full-time MotoGP riders participated in the private post-race test, offering manufacturers valuable feedback on the bikes that will usher in a new era of the championship.
Aprilia fielded title contender Marco Bezzecchi alongside Raul Fernandez, while Ducati selected reigning world champion Marc Marquez and Gresini youngster Fermin Aldeguer.
Honda’s representatives were Joan Mir and Luca Marini, with KTM relying on Pedro Acosta and Yamaha handing testing duties to former WorldSBK champion Toprak Razgatlioglu.
The session marked the first opportunity for many riders to experience the combination of reduced-capacity 850cc engines and Pirelli tyres, both key elements of MotoGP’s 2027 technical overhaul. The new regulations will also feature reduced aerodynamics and the removal of ride-height devices.
Several factory test riders were also present at Brno, having already played a major role in the early development of the new machines and tyre package.
Riders described the test as physically demanding, with teams focusing on gathering data and understanding the behaviour of the new bikes rather than outright lap times. The feedback collected will help manufacturers refine their prototypes ahead of further development tests later this season.
