Ducati’s MotoGP future remains secure despite Volkswagen sale speculation

Ducati’s status as one of MotoGP’s leading manufacturers is not expected to change anytime soon, despite growing speculation that parent company Volkswagen Group could consider selling the iconic Italian motorcycle brand.

Recent reports have linked Ducati with a potential sale as Volkswagen evaluates its long-term business strategy. However, while the German automotive giant has responded to the rumours, it stopped short of confirming or denying that Ducati could be put on the market.

In a statement to RideApart, a Volkswagen spokesperson did not specifically mention Ducati, instead pointing to broader challenges facing the entire Volkswagen Group.

The spokesperson noted that the company’s traditional business model of manufacturing vehicles in Europe before exporting them globally “no longer works across all brands,” highlighting the wider strategic review currently taking place across the group.

Although speculation over Ducati’s future ownership continues, there is no indication that the brand’s commitment to MotoGP or its racing programme is under threat.

Ducati remains one of the most valuable and influential names in the motorcycle industry, with its success on the racetrack further enhancing its global reputation. Its recent dominance in MotoGP has helped cement the Italian manufacturer as both a technological leader and a highly desirable brand, making it one of the crown jewels within the Volkswagen portfolio.

For now, any potential ownership changes appear unlikely to affect Ducati’s ambitions in MotoGP, where the manufacturer is expected to remain a major force for years to come.
