Enea Bastianini, set to join Trackhouse Aprilia for the 2027 MotoGP season, has revealed that his discussions with Aprilia date back to his rookie year in 2020—when the manufacturer was still struggling at the back of the grid.
“At that time, Aprilia was last in the constructors’ standings, and I chose Avintia for my MotoGP debut,” Bastianini explained ahead of the Aragon Grand Prix. He climbed Ducati’s ranks from Avintia to the factory team, becoming a seven-time race winner but ultimately missing out on a title challenge and losing his seat to Marc Marquez.
Bastianini again caught Aprilia’s attention when he left Ducati, but opted for a move to Tech3 KTM—where results have been mixed, with a podium in Catalunya and a Sprint podium at COTA his highlights. “We talked a lot in the past. Also when I swapped from Moto2 to MotoGP. But this year, we talk more! Starting from the first race. My mind was clear,” Bastianini said.
Frustrated by a lack of progress at KTM since 2025, Bastianini began considering his future early in the season. “I thought about my future very early this year, from the first race, because I saw a lot of potential on the Aprilia bikes and I thought it could be my future,” he said. “We did not find a lot of speed from last year to now… For this I made the decision to change for the future.”
Now confirmed at Trackhouse for 2027, Bastianini is excited about the fresh challenge: “Next year we have different bikes, different tyre and it will change a lot. But I think I can be competitive.”
The move ends a long courtship between Bastianini and Aprilia and marks a new chapter for the Italian, who is currently 12th in the world championship.
