Espargaro returns to KTM testing after injury layoff

Pol Espargaro is set to return to MotoGP testing duties with KTM at Misano this week following his recovery from a hand injury suffered in a dirt-bike training accident in April.

According to reports, the Spaniard will join fellow KTM test rider Dani Pedrosa for a private two-day test, marking his first appearance on track since the injury setback.

The injury ruled Espargaro out of a potential stand-in ride for Maverick Vinales at Le Mans, prompting Tech3 to call up Jonas Folger instead. Vinales later returned to competition at the Catalunya Grand Prix.

At Misano, Espargaro will help KTM continue development of its 850cc prototype fitted with Pirelli tyres ahead of MotoGP’s upcoming regulation changes.

The circuit is expected to offer ideal testing conditions following this weekend’s WorldSBK round, which also runs on Pirelli rubber.

If the test progresses smoothly, Espargaro could make another appearance on the KTM machine during the official post-race test at Brno next Monday.

Alongside his testing responsibilities, the 35-year-old continues to work as a MotoGP television pundit for DAZN.
