Fabio Quartararo has been penalised for a technical infringement at the Silverstone MotoGP, losing his 12th-place finish after his Yamaha failed to record valid front tyre-pressure data throughout the race.
MotoGP Stewards issued a 16-second post-race penalty after it was found that Quartararo’s tyre-pressure data “was not being transmitted correctly.” During technical inspection, officials discovered the onboard receiver had not been correctly configured to log the front tyre sensor’s data, resulting in no actual front tyre data being recorded during the race.
According to the FIM Stewards, “The use of Tyre Air Pressure Sensors (TAPS) on all wheels, front and rear, is mandatory in the MotoGP class, including logging of TAPS data at all times.” Quartararo received the same penalty applied to riders failing to meet minimum tyre pressure requirements.
The penalty drops Quartararo—who was Yamaha’s top finisher—to 16th and last, leaving him without points from Silverstone.
It’s another frustrating blow for the Frenchman, who retired from the lead at last year’s British MotoGP and was hoping to turn his fortunes around this season.
