George Russell is embracing a positive outlook after a rollercoaster first half of the 2026 Formula 1 season, which sees him third in the drivers’ championship heading into the summer break.
The Mercedes driver capped off the opening 11 rounds with a hard-fought seventh place at the Hungarian Grand Prix, despite suffering an anti-stall issue at the start. Russell’s season so far has been a mix of highs and setbacks—including a victory in Australia, a Chinese sprint race win, but also a series of misfortunes: mechanical issues in Shanghai, a strategy-disrupting safety car in Japan, engine failure while leading in Canada, penalties in Monaco, and a retirement in Belgium.
Despite these challenges, Russell is keeping his focus forward. “Some highs, some disappointing moments but still a long way to go until the finale and anything can happen in this sport,” he posted. “We’re keeping positive, we’ll keep pushing but for now, it’s time for some well-earned rest.”
Russell currently sits third in the standings with 160 points, just nine points off second-placed Lewis Hamilton and 59 behind leader Kimi Antonelli. As F1 heads into its summer shutdown, Russell and Mercedes remain determined to fight for more success in the second half of the season.
