Red Bull has confirmed that Laurent Mekies will remain as team principal through the end of the 2031 Formula 1 season after signing a new long-term contract extension.
The announcement was made by Red Bull shareholder Mark Mateschitz during a team debrief in Milton Keynes, following back-to-back race wins in Malaysia and Singapore. Mekies, who took over as CEO and principal after Christian Horner’s departure in July last year, expressed pride and gratitude for the trust placed in him and his vision.
“I am incredibly proud to continue this journey with Oracle Red Bull Racing, and I’d like to thank everyone involved for their trust in the project. The strength of this team is the way everyone comes together with a shared goal. We genuinely believe this is only the beginning,” Mekies said.
Mekies highlighted the vital roles played by technical leaders Pierre Wache and Ben Hodgkinson in shaping Red Bull’s future, and reaffirmed the team’s commitment to innovation, speed, and bold decision-making.
The extension follows recent contract renewals for Max Verstappen (signed through 2030) and Isack Hadjar (retained for the 2027 season), reinforcing Red Bull’s long-term ambitions.
Shareholders Mateschitz and Chalerm Yoovidhya underlined Mekies’ pivotal part in successfully guiding the team through a period of transition while maintaining Red Bull’s signature principles.
Managing director Oliver Mintzlaff added that Mekies’ leadership, technical expertise, and understanding of Red Bull’s culture have been key to the team’s ongoing success.
“Continuity in leadership is a key ingredient for sustained success, and we are delighted that Laurent will continue to lead the team through the next chapter of our journey,” Mintzlaff noted.
With Mekies at the helm, Red Bull looks ahead to building upon its momentum and sustaining its winning culture well into the next decade.
