Malaysia’s Zi Yu-Genevie Make History with First-Ever World Junior Girls’ Doubles Title

Malaysia’s young badminton stars Low Zi Yu and Genevie Lim have ended the country’s 34-year wait for a girls’ doubles crown at the World Junior Badminton Championships after a thrilling victory in Cairo, Egypt.

The second-seeded Malaysian pair defeated Japan’s Nijika Kamata and Shizuku Kashio 15-7, 9-15, 15-12 in the final, holding their nerve in the deciding game to secure the historic title.

The triumph marks the first time Malaysian players have won the girls’ doubles event since the World Junior Championships introduced the category in 1992. For 16-year-old Zi Yu, the victory was especially sweet after finishing runner-up in the previous two editions with different partners. Her 18-year-old partner Genevie proved the perfect teammate as they delivered on the biggest stage of their junior careers.

Their achievement is another encouraging sign for Malaysia’s badminton future, with the young duo showing they can compete with the best in the world.
