Rising Spanish star Maximo Quiles, widely regarded as a protégé of Marc Marquez, will step up to the Moto2 class with the Aspar team for the 2027 season.
At just 18, Quiles has been on a rapid ascent through the grand prix ranks. After a stellar 2025 debut in Moto3—claiming three victories and finishing third overall—he’s dominated the 2026 season with six wins and currently leads the standings by a remarkable 104 points at the midway stage.
With Dani Holgado set to move up to MotoGP with Gresini, Aspar confirmed Quiles’ promotion after days of speculation. “We’re delighted to compete with Maximo Quiles in Moto2,” said team principal Jorge Martinez ‘Aspar’. “He’s been the rider to beat in Moto3, and we’ll work hard to finish the season as champions before making the leap to the intermediate category. We believe he is ready for all the challenges ahead.”
Quiles, who has received support from both Marquez brothers, has already amassed nine wins and 19 podiums from 29 starts in Moto3—despite only entering the world championship after a change in age regulations.
Reflecting on his progress, Quiles said, “I’m a more well-rounded rider now. Last year, I was really eager, but now I make smarter decisions and stay calmer during races.”
The Aspar team will field a completely new Moto2 line-up in 2027, with David Alonso also set to move up to MotoGP. Alonso will join Honda, although it remains to be seen whether that will be with the factory team or a works-supported seat at LCR.
Quiles’ promotion reinforces Aspar’s commitment to nurturing talent from grassroots to world championship level, continuing a tradition that has produced top riders like Arenas, Guevara, and Alonso.
