MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has declared that he will never use the power of the media to attack his competitors, even though he recognizes its strategic value for personal advantage.
In a recent interview with Autosport, Marquez reflected on his past experiences, notably the 2015 Sepang incident involving Valentino Rossi. That confrontation, which erupted into a media storm, saw Rossi accuse Marquez of deliberately influencing the championship outcome to favor Jorge Lorenzo. The incident led to a heated on-track clash and longstanding tension between the two riders.
Despite having faced intense scrutiny and personal accusations in the media, Marquez stressed the importance of integrity outside of competition. “But I will never use the power of the media against somebody,” Marquez stated. “I may use it for my benefit—to try to be quiet—but never against someone else.”
Both Marquez and Rossi are renowned for their mental toughness and psychological tactics on the track. However, Marquez insists that any mind games belong only in racing and not in off-track media battles.
The interview was published shortly before Marquez’s victory in the MotoGP Sprint in Australia, as he remains focused on his racing goals. The Spaniard moves forward with a commitment to fair play, keeping his rivalry and ambitions centered on performance rather than headlines.
