Alex Marquez targets MotoGP comeback at Brno

Alex Marquez is set to travel to Brno this week and will attempt to make his return to MotoGP action at the Czech Grand Prix, Gresini Racing has confirmed.

The Spaniard has been sidelined since suffering serious injuries in a frightening crash during the Catalunya Grand Prix one month ago.

Marquez sustained a broken right collarbone and a marginal fracture of his C7 vertebra after an incident while battling near the front of the race.

The former Sprint winner was running second behind Pedro Acosta when the KTM rider suffered a sudden technical problem, leaving Marquez with little time to react as he veered off track in a high-speed accident.

Following the crash, Marquez underwent surgery to repair his fractured collarbone and has spent the past month recovering.

During his absence, Gresini called upon Ducati test rider Michele Pirro for the Mugello round before WorldSBK competitor Iker Lecuona stepped in at Balaton Park.

Despite the severity of his injuries, Marquez’s recovery has progressed well enough for him to travel to Brno and undergo the necessary medical assessments ahead of the race weekend.

His participation will depend on receiving medical clearance and successfully completing the required fitness checks.

A return would provide a significant boost for both Marquez and Gresini as the Spaniard looks to resume his campaign after an encouraging start to the season, which included victory in the Sprint race at Catalunya before the unfortunate crash.
