Alex Marquez Admits Costly Mistakes at Motegi

Alex Marquez admitted that the same foot and gear-shifting mistake caused his crashes during Sunday’s Japanese MotoGP at Motegi.

The Gresini Ducati rider crashed during the morning warm-up and later suffered another crash from eighth place in the Grand Prix. On both occasions, he said he failed to position his foot correctly while the bike was leaned over, causing him to shift up instead of down.

“I did mistakes in both the warm-up and the race,” Marquez admitted. He said the bike then effectively pushed him because he was in the wrong gear, calling it a mistake he “can’t make”, especially twice in one day.

It was a frustrating end to a difficult weekend. Marquez had been fastest in Friday practice and running fourth early in the race, but finished the weekend without points and dropped eighth in the championship to Pecco Bagnaia.
