Marc Marquez delivered Ducati’s 100th MotoGP victory under Gigi Dall’Igna’s leadership by winning the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi, adding another milestone to Ducati’s remarkable era.
But surprisingly, Dall’Igna’s favourite Ducati is not one of the machines that won a race or championship. He picked the 2015 GP15, the first bike developed entirely under his technical leadership.
The GP15 never won a MotoGP race, but it scored nine podiums in 2015, including five runner-up finishes. For Dall’Igna, it represented the moment Ducati made a major step forward after years of struggling.
Since then, Ducati has gone on to dominate MotoGP, with 100 victories under Dall’Igna and riders’ championships from 2022 onwards. Marquez’s Motegi win also cut Jorge Martin’s championship lead to just two points with six rounds remaining.
