Breanna Stewart has continued her remarkable winning tradition, claiming a fourth consecutive FIBA World Cup championship with USA Women’s Basketball after a decisive 97-79 victory over France. Stewart’s latest triumph ties her with Sue Bird for the most FIBA World Cup titles in tournament history.
Stewart, who was named tournament MVP for the second time, averaged 12.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists while shooting 55.3% from the floor during the event. She delivered 22 points and 10 rebounds in the championship game.
“She is USA Basketball. When you think of the last 15 years, it’s Stewie,” said U.S. coach Kara Lawson. “We’re just really lucky to be a part of her era.”
Stewart’s leadership and consistency have become the cornerstone for Team USA, echoing the winning legacy of icons like Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi. “I pride myself on being consistently great,” Stewart said. “That’s showing up when it’s the big moments, the small moments and all the moments in between.”
First-time World Cup teammate Caitlin Clark praised Stewart’s calming influence and leadership, recounting how Stewart reassured the team after a close win over Italy: “Stewie’s a winner. That’s all she is. All she ever does is win.”
Beyond the World Cup, Stewart’s résumé includes three Olympic gold medals, two WNBA titles, and four NCAA championships—each time earning Most Outstanding Player honors.
