Yamaha MotoGP boss Massimo Meregalli is looking forward to a revitalized 2027 campaign, banking on a “fresh air” effect as the factory team welcomes a star-studded new rider line-up and prepares for sweeping technical changes.
Yamaha’s struggles in recent seasons have been well-documented, with the team now over four years without a win and still seeking a podium with the newly introduced V4-powered YZR-M1. This major technical overhaul in 2026 is just the beginning; the arrival of MotoGP’s new 850cc formula in 2027 will bring further changes, including new aerodynamic rules and a ban on ride height devices.
But perhaps the biggest shift for Yamaha will be the arrival of Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura, currently first and second in the 2026 MotoGP standings, who will replace departing stars Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins. Only Toprak Razgatlioglu remains under contract for 2027.
“Next year is going to be a new year and having also two new riders, we are for sure excited,” Meregalli told MotoGP.com. “Even the nicest things have an end, and we’re ending this long journey with Fabio and Alex. We are grateful for what they’ve done, but bringing in new riders and new regulations will bring fresh air and new motivation.”
With a bold new direction both on and off the track, Yamaha is eager to turn the page and chase success in a new era for MotoGP.
