CAF president Patrice Motsepe has called for FIFA’s 211 member associations to determine the fate of embattled president Gianni Infantino at the organisation’s next election, set for March 2025 in Rabat, Morocco.
Infantino, seeking re-election, faces mounting pressure after UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF openly criticised his conduct and urged his resignation following the failed attempt to bring private investment into FIFA competitions. However, Motsepe insists the upcoming election is the proper venue for such decisions.
“Elections are taking place next year. We should allow that process to continue and let the 211 members decide,” Motsepe told Sky News. “If there are candidates who want to stand against him, put up their names. That’s the right thing.”
Motsepe emphasized the importance of unity and due process within FIFA: “If anyone has got a problem… follow the FIFA process. And if you want to take him out, go for elections. Simple as that. The vote will express whether they have confidence in him or not. Everybody is entitled to fair judgement and fair treatment. Due process, governance and legality are non-negotiable.”
He also confirmed that Infantino continues to enjoy the support of African football: “He’s been loyal to African football. He enjoys the support of Africa.”
Motsepe’s comments underscore a call for fair procedure and collective decision-making amid one of FIFA’s most contentious leadership periods.
