Paris Saint-Germain kick off their Ligue 1 campaign as overwhelming favourites for a sixth straight title, but much of the spotlight is on their quest for a third consecutive Champions League crown—a feat only achieved by Real Madrid, Ajax, and Bayern Munich.
Fresh off a record-extending 14th French title and back-to-back European triumphs, PSG have retained their star-studded core and added key signings, including World Cup winner Ferran Torres and the returning Lucas Digne. Head coach Luis Enrique remains cautious: “Nothing is easy—I don’t recall any easy French league campaigns, at least not in the last three years.”
Despite often rotating their squad to focus on Europe last season, PSG’s six-point margin over Lens was their narrowest in recent years. Ballon d’Or holder Ousmane Dembele started just 11 league games, highlighting their squad depth.
PSG open their season against Rennes on Sunday, aiming to build momentum before Champions League action begins on September 8. “Everyone thinks we can win, but that’s just theory. Now we have to prove on the pitch that we’re up to the task,” Luis Enrique said of their European ambitions.
Elsewhere in Ligue 1, Lens aim to challenge again under new coach Dino Toppmoeller after a strong second-place finish and a Champions’ Trophy win over PSG. The league has seen widespread managerial changes, with only four clubs—including PSG—retaining their head coach from last season.
With renewed hunger for silverware and a deep, talented squad, PSG look to dominate at home while chasing continental history.
