Marco Bezzecchi has acknowledged his MotoGP title hopes are slipping away after another difficult weekend at the Malaysian Grand Prix. With Jorge Martin sidelined through injury, Bezzecchi saw his own title bid take a major hit, losing 17 more points to rival Marc Marquez following a sixth-place finish at Sepang.
That result, on the back of a six-point loss to Marquez at Phillip Island, means Bezzecchi now trails the reigning champion by 67 points—leaving his championship ambitions hanging by a thread. “Realistically, it’s tough,” he admitted. “But while the maths is on our side, I will keep believing and keep working as hard as I can every day at home and at the races.”
Bezzecchi stressed the timing of the Sepang struggle was particularly harsh: “This GP comes in a part of the championship where we didn’t need a GP where we struggle.” Despite Sepang’s status as a Ducati favorite and an Aprilia weakness, Bezzecchi now turns his focus to Qatar’s Lusail circuit, hoping for a turnaround. “Now we go to Qatar, a track where hopefully we can go well. I’ll give my all as always…It’s more lost than won, but let’s try to make the best of every weekend and then we’ll see.”
With only Lusail, Portimao, and Valencia remaining, Bezzecchi’s title prospects depend on a flawless end to the season—and on closing the gap to Marquez, who continues to extend his lead in the standings.
